Rapid Growth of the Dutch Solar Market
The Netherlands has become one of the most dynamic solar markets in Europe. In 2025, the country added approximately 2.08GW of new solar capacity, bringing the total installed solar capacity to around 29.7GW. The rapid expansion of solar installations has accelerated the country’s energy transition and increased demand for advanced energy management solutions.
Why Energy Storage Demand Is Growing
With the rapid increase in solar capacity and relatively slower grid expansion, excess electricity is often generated during the daytime. This leads to local electricity oversupply, causing electricity prices to drop and, in some cases, even become negative.
Solar energy battery storage systems offer an effective solution to this challenge. By storing excess electricity generated during the day and releasing it during peak demand periods in the evening, energy storage systems help stabilize electricity usage and improve energy efficiency.
Energy storage also helps address grid connection limitations. Instead of exporting all solar energy to the grid, excess electricity can be stored locally and used later, reducing pressure on the grid.
In addition, the Dutch Net Metering policy is expected to be gradually phased out starting in 2027. As a result, more households and businesses are seeking ways to increase self-consumption rates, further driving the adoption of solar energy storage systems.
